The biggest-ever static display of competition cars the region has seen is the focal point of Saturday’s (May 24) Auto & Rally Show, which is open from 2.00pm to 6.00pm. Fans will have a unique opportunity to get up close to the record number of more than 120 rally cars entered for Sunday’s First Citizens King of the Hill and BCIC RB25 the following weekend (May 30-June 1) and to meet the drivers and teams from home and overseas.
. With a record number of 51 regional and international competitors and a host of first-time visitors, there is plenty for the ‘petrol heads’ to check out, while competitions like Spin the Wheel, giveaways and promotions and the Raceway Jump ‘N’ Slide Jumping Tent in the Kids Area will keep the whole family engaged. Courtesy of KotH title sponsor First Citizens, there will also be two visits by the ever-popular Tuk Band.
Now in its fourth year at Bushy Park, the show also enables motorists to test-drive vehicles from local importers, exhibiting their product ranges to the east behind the Clubhouse. More than 100 people have already signed up on-line for road car test drives, which will take place on the northern half of the circuit, trying out vehicles from Ansa Motors, CAR (Caribbean Automotive Retailers), Courtesy Garage, Inchcape, Megapower, Nassco and Platinum Motors.
The Rally Club stand is where patrons need to go for a free copy of the event’s 32-page Official Programme, with the Women in Motorsport booth next door furthering the Barbados Motoring Federation’s (BMF) efforts to promote more inclusivity in the sport. A record-equalling 24 female competitors are on the entry list for FC KotH and BCIC RB25, with volunteers and crew members taking the number of women involved in the event well into three figures . . . but there is always room for more.
The Main Stage, located backing Gaskin Road, will host interviews with drivers and special guests, but there are many more chances to go autograph-hunting at the tents of individual team sponsors: Automotive Art (two-time Rally Barbados winner Dane Skeete), Bushy Park (BCIC RB24 winner Stuart Maloney), Chefette (Barry and Roger Mayers), GO ON Protein Bars (Andrew Jones), KFC (Kyle Catwell), Rude Boy (Tremaine Forde-Catwell), Subway (Chris Hoad and George Sherman from the USA), Subzero (Nigel Reece) and Valvoline (former European Rally Champion Simon Jean-Joseph), while Britain’s Rob Swann will be on the Ocean Acres stand to encourage patrons to adopt a rescue dog from the shelter.
Food and beverage booths to suit all tastes are over by Gate 3: macaroni pie, BBQ ribs, veg and beef burgers from Danny Burger, slushies, fishcakes and hotdogs from Happy Mill, tacos from Happy Tacos, whole or sliced pizza from Pizza Burns and Santia’s Popcorn. Nearby are Mike’s Rum Punch and Barrelhouse Distributors, a new event partner sampling quality spirits, while Happy Hospitality will run a fully-stocked bar overlooking the circuit, just along from the Frosteez ice cream truck.
Pedestrian access to The Auto & Rally Show will be through Gate 3 off Gaskin Road, with parking outside the perimeter fence; there will be no access through the Pit Gate. Admission is Bds$5 for adults, children 12 and under are free.

BCIC Rally Barbados (May 30-June 1) is a tarmac rally with 22 special stages run on the island’s intricate network of public roads, under road closure orders granted by the Ministry of Transport, Works & Water Resources; Sunday’s (May 25) First Citizens King of the Hill, run under a similar arrangement, features four timed runs on a four-kilometre stage, with the results used to seed the running order for the main event.
