Champions were celebrated and volunteers thanked for their commitment to motor sport during a convivial evening as trophies and keepsakes were presented at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving last Thursday (March 26).

Competitors from the grass roots disciplines of Autocross and MudDogs off-road navigational events arrived at the BCTSA Clubhouse, Searles, Christ Church, to join rally crews following the Briefing Meeting for last Sunday’s Shakedown Rally.

Two drivers were delighted to receive unexpected awards: marking his retirement after more than 25 years as one of motor sport’s crowd favourites, Jonathan Still received the Richard Roett Memorial Trophy. Just embarking on his career, the Rookie of the Year was Sebastian Thompson, who finished fourth in Clubman 2 in his BimmaCup and 12th overall of the 63 drivers in the final points table.

With a presentation to Stage Commander Dexter Griffith, the Club recognised the sacrifices and commitment of the volunteers who play such a major role in motor sport, not only during events but in the weeks and months of planning that go before.

Edward Corbin was presented with trophies as Champion Driver - for the third time - and SuperModified 1, while Rhett Watson won the 2wd Championship for a record fourth time, also the SM2 class. Jamaica’s Kyle Gregg claimed his first Rally Club titles, as 4wd and FIA R5 Champion to add to his win in BCIC RB25.

Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal were crowned Champion Driver and Navigator respectively in the Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship, while Alexander and Chelsea Gill are Class B Champions. Chelsea was also highest-placed Female Navigator, while her sister Rebecca Clarke won the trophy for highest-placed Female Driver.

There was a family feel in Autocross, too, where Geoffrey Ullyett was Champion Driver and son Daniel claimed the Junior and Motoring News Rookie titles; Sameisha Williams was Ladies Champion.
