New names in the top six after BKA round four
New names have climbed into the top six of the 2025 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship points standings following the fourth round at Bushy Park. Calem Maloney remains the overall leader from new second-placed Jordyn Hinkson, while reigning Champion Driver Jacob Mayers climbs from sixth to third.
Sunday’s (August 17) Williams Equipment Raceday ran alongside the Barbados Motoring Federation’s (BMF) OK-J Development Series Nations Cup providing a varied and action-packed day of sport. It also provided a new challenge for the regular BKA racers, competing on a much longer track than usual, at 1.31 kilometres.
Zak Mayers, who had been lying second to Maloney in the Easykart 125cc class, opted to forgo BKA action to focus on the Nations Cup, so a shuffle in the points was on the cards. Maloney was quickest in practice and led the opening race from flag to flag, finishing 7.7secs clear of Jacob Mayers, with Cody Mark third.
Racing for only the second time this year, Mark took an early lead in the reverse grid second race. Maloney took longer to work his way through the field, snatching second place from Mayers two laps from home to finish just over 1sec behind Mark. But that was the end of Mark’s fine day, as he retired from the remaining two races.
Maloney was the dominant winner of both of those, leading all the way. Mayers recovered from dropping back on the opening lap in race three to finish second ahead of Colin Bradshaw. In the final race, Aaron Blackett equalled his best result of the season with second place, Mayers finishing third. Maloney now has 385 points, Mayers 288 and Blackett 241, with one dropped score yet to be taken into account.
With points leader Jaydn Brathwaite absent, there was also a chance for others in the Easykart 60cc Cadet class to shine. Jordyn Hinkson was fastest in qualifying and won all four races, the first driver to do so this year, but there were some good scraps behind.
Edward Norris and Jaylan Priddee were second and third in the first two races and looked set for a repeat in the third until Norris suffered a flat tyre after some close combat and retired. Priddee inherited the place with Finn Cox third. In the final race, Norris again finished second, with reigning Class Champion Shamir Eversley third.
Hinkson now leads the class with 343 points, ahead of Brathwaite (276pts), with Norris (258pts) moving ahead of Eversley (245pts) . . . all four now in the top six overall.
There were no Easykart 100cc races, as the two key protagonists, Aeden Bruce and Oliver Judd, were competing in the Nations Cup. Round five of the BKA Championship is scheduled for September 21.
