With three wins at Sunday’s (September 8) Crane & Equipment Raceday at Bushy Park, Calem Maloney has retaken the lead of the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship after seven rounds. Since slipping back when he missed the second round in March, the Easykart 125cc class leader has been edging closer and now leads Zak Mayers by two points, 575 to 573.

With only one class win on Sunday, Mayers is now just 14 points ahead of his cousin Jacob, who won the other three Easykart 100cc Juniors races to remain third in the overall standings with 559. Fourth overall is Aaron Blackett (449pts), who clocked his 10th 125cc podium finish of the season, with Easykarts 60cc Cadets leader Shamir Eversley (436pts) completing the top five.

The close battle that has raged all year between the Mayers boys continued. Zak was the fastest of the Juniors in qualifying, swapping the lead in the early laps of race one with Jacob before pulling away to win by 5secs. Aeden Bruce, who had missed the sixth round, split the cousins in race two, then finished third, close behind, in the day’s other two encounters. With 428 points, he is third in class and sixth overall.

Maloney, who won the Champion Driver title in 2022, was fastest in qualifying, by around half-a-second from Raizer Stoute, the 125cc field smaller than usual at just six starters. He led from the start of race one, but a mechanical failure on the final lap allowed Blake Thompson, who had come through the field from last at the start, to become the season’s fifth different race-winner in the class. Stoute finished second on the road, but penalties dropped him to fourth, Blackett and Cody Mark completing the podium. Based on distance completed, Maloney still collected points for fifth place.

Winning the day’s remaining three races brought his total of victories for the season to 21, Thompson finishing second in race two before retiring just before half-distance in the third and taking no further part in proceedings. Early leader Blackett finished third in race two, then second and fourth, maintaining a consistent haul of points, while Stoute and Mark also visited the podium again.

Having qualified fastest, Jaydn Brathwaite won all four Easykart 60cc Cadets races. He enjoyed a particularly close fight with Jordyn Hinkson in the third race, with three changes of lead before taking the win by just over 1 sec; Shamir Eversley still leads the class with 436 points from Hinkson on 334.
