Charities benefit as Panton wins R5 Rally Championship

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton has won the 2023 R5 Rally Championship presented by First Citizens in his debut season driving a Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo, his first non-Ford rally car for more than a decade. With the title chase in mind, he paced himself in last Sunday’s (October 22) final round, the BRC Winter Rally, finishing third as Mark Maloney claimed his first R5 win after a ding-dong battle with Britain’s Rob Swann.

Record race car shipment leaves UK for Bushy Park

The biggest-ever single shipment of racing cars from the UK to Barbados will leave Portsmouth on Sunday (October 29) on the Geest Line freighter Baltic Klipper. Among the nearly 30 cars on board are those campaigned by six of the top 10 finishers in the 2023 Mission Motorsport Caterham Seven 270R Championship, who are set to light up Bushy Park Barbados next month.

Ian Warren is provisional Rally Club Champion Driver

Ian Warren is the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver elect, after claiming his sixth Clubman 2 class win of the season in Sunday’s (October 22) BRC Winter Rally at the wheel of his BimmaCup. The seventh and final round of the BRC Driver’s and Class Championships fought out in St John and St Joseph provided a dramatic climax to the season as the front-runners suffered a day of mixed fortunes.

Fierce competition anticipated at BRC Winter Rally

Dane Skeete and Tyler Mayhew lead the field of 39 cars entered for the final round of the 2023 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Driver’s and Class Championships on Sunday (October 22) in the Subaru Impreza WRC S12 in which they have twice won Sol Rally Barbados. With the now-customary enhanced points structure in place for the BRC Winter Rally and Champions yet to be crowned, a day of fierce competition is anticipated.

Nine crews entered for final R5 Championship weekend

Nine crews from home and overseas, equalling the biggest entry list for the year, are preparing for what have today (Tuesday) been confirmed as the final three rounds of the 2023 R5 Rally Championship presented by First Citizens. On Saturday (October 21), they will tackle the Motoring Club Barbados Inc (MCBI) Hammertime Double-Header Sprint in the north of the island, with the action switching to the south-east for Sunday’s Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Winter Rally.

Rally Club pays tribute to Jamal Brathwaite

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has paid tribute to Jamal Brathwaite, a long-standing competitor and member of its Committee of Management for more than a decade, who was involved in a fatal road accident in the United States in the early hours of Saturday. BRC Chairman Neil Corbin said: "The motorsport community has lost a great man."

Mayers leads Rally Club Championship into final round

Roger Mayers heads into this month's final round of the 2023 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Driver’s and Class Championships leading the Champion Driver title chase, with a 100 per cent record of class wins in SuperModified 2. His total of 105 points gives him a four-point cushion over former two-time Champion Neil Corbin, with Ian Warren just one further point behind.

E-Sports Champion early leader in R5 title race

Reigning Champion Mark-Anthony Hinkson is the early leader of the second season of the E-Sports R5 Rally Championship, presented by First Citizens. Nearly 60 competitors from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and the UK have registered for the competition, which is administered by Caribbean Sim Motorsport, a Member Club of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF).

Caterham Champion leads charge to the Caribbean

British Caterham Champion, 20-year-old Lewis Thompson, will lead an invasion of more than 40 drivers from the British sports car manufacturer’s circuit racing series for the Caterham Caribbean Cup at Bushy Park Barbados next month. The biggest-ever single shipment of race cars to the island will leave the UK south coast port of Southampton later this month, arriving at the Bridgetown Port in mid-November.

Maloney, Thompson and Ullyett fight for BKA title

Reigning Champion Driver Calem Maloney claimed a maximum 100 points for the third time this season at Sunday’s (October 1) Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Glassesco Raceday at Bushy Park Barbados. In doing so, he drew level with Blake Thompson who has slipped to second after leading since round three, as former double Champion Daniel Ullyett became the fourth different leader of the Sectus Technologies Championship this year. Just 14 points are spread across the three, with the final round on November 5.
