McCartney leads BPMSI into second round at Bushy Park

Devan McCartney is the early leader of the Champion Driver title chase as Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) prepares for round two of its 2017 Championship, to be staged at the John ‘Tiny’ Harrison Memorial Raceday at Bushy Park Barbados on Saturday & Sunday, May 6/7. BPMSI will again share the weekend with the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD), as it presents Launch Control, round 2.

Saturday, which is slated for an 11.30am start, will include Practice and Qualifying for BPMSI Championship classes on two and four wheels, also the opening round of the third Suzuki Challenge Series Swift Cup and SR3 Cup; BADD members will Practice in the middle of the day and Qualify at the end.

On Sunday, after an earlier 10.55am start, 16 races are scheduled on the 2.01-kilometre International Circuit, three each for the BPMSI classes and the Suzuki Challenge Series, offering 130 laps of wheel-to-wheel dicing, with the Hilti Handicap for Cars rounding of the track programme. After that, BADD will take to the northern drag strip at around 3.30pm to complete the day with its Eliminations and Grudge Matches.

Entries for both Clubs are now open at Motorsport Services, with those for BPMSI closing on Thursday, May 4, BADD entries the following day; competitors from both Clubs will enjoy the chance for some last-minute testing at the BPCI Open Track Day on Saturday, April 29, with track time starting at 11.00am and drag practice from 3.30pm.

At BPMSI’s opening fixture of the season on March 26, McCartney (Zephirins Bakery/C & A Autobody Repair Honda CRX) claimed a hat-trick of wins in Group 1/Class 2, an achievement matched by Gp1/C1 winner Andre Walcott (Courts iFinance/M-Grafix Suzuki Swift). Walcott, however, suffered from a couple of unsubscribed races, which meant he failed to score the maximum 25 points for a win. So, McCartney leads the overall title chase with 75 points, Walcott is second with 61 and Derek Edwards (D & A Mechanical Services BMW 318ti Compact), McCartney’s closest challenger in Gp1/C2, third on 51. Kyle King (Automotive Art/Percy King Auto Parts Toyota Starlet) leads the Hilti Handicap Championship points with 25 points, following a stirring drive to overcome a 10-second jump-start penalty.
