CAPACITY ENTRY FOR TARMAC SPRINT

Spectators who make their way to the north of the island on Saturday evening (July 25) will enjoy a motor sport treat at the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Summer Nights Tarmac Sprint. The capacity entry further reaffirms the support that motor sport is currently enjoying, despite the challenging economic climate . . . and five drivers on the list have not yet joined the more than 70 who have already scored points this season.
The Summer Nights Tarmac Sprint, round 7 of the Virgin Atlantic BRC Driver’s and Class Championships, is slated to start at 7.00pm; the BRC has obtained special permission to use Pickerings Plantation as a spectator area, which will be floodlit – spectators are asked to be in place no later than 6.30pm, to allow for a prompt start. There will be one practice run, followed by three official timed runs.
Island fans will be divided on what provides the best entertainment of the night; while there are those for whom the four-wheel-drive classes are the major appeal – there are 10 cars listed in those classes – there are others for whom the prospect of watching a host of rear-wheel-drive BMW M3s and Toyota Starlets in action makes for just the best night out.
For the drivers, however, it is all a little more serious, as the event kicks off the second half of the Virgin Atlantic Championships, with six more points-scoring opportunities between now and November. Competitors will be based in the car park of St Lucy’s Parish Church, where they must arrive for scrutineering by 5.15pm.
