WEATHER PROMISES TOUGH SAFARI

Nearly 30 crews are listed on the final entry for this Sunday’s (September 21) Regional Fire & Security September Safari, round three of the 2008 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship.
With all the front-running championship contenders entered, headed by joint leaders Anna-Lee and Leslie Alleyne and Neil Barnard and Barry Gale, and the current weather conditions guaranteed to create some difficult terrain, it promises to be a tough and hard-fought event.
The start is at Automotive Art, Welches, at 8.00am on Sunday, and the finish at the ‘Dog Pound’, Searles, Christ Church, where a driver challenge will conclude the competition; spectators are encouraged to attend the challenge, which is slated for a 5.00pm start. The event will run over two routes, with a lunch-time stop-over at Colleton in St John at around mid-day. The navigational methods used will be the Tulip system, with a small amount of BRC.
Chairman of the BRC Mud Dogs sub-committee, Leslie Alleyne noted: “We have another satisfying turnout of entries for the Regional Fire & Security September Safari and the route-setter, Warrick Eastmond, promises them all an exciting and challenging event.
“We are very pleased to have Regional Fire on board this year, as we look to focus more on safety in 2009. Their representatives brought sample products to the briefing meeting on Tuesday to help reinforce our drive for safety, and also offered a special price on fire extinguishers during the evening, which resulted in a complete sell-out to competitors.”
With only one further round remaining after this weekend, everyone will be on their mettle to claim the maximum haul of points. Once again, the entry is split fairly evenly between crews in the Pro and Novice classes, and There are no fewer than eight competitors who will be challenging for the highest-placed female award.
The Prizegiving for the Regional Fire & Security September Safari will be held at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association Clubhouse next Tuesday (September 23) at 7.00pm, once results have been made official.
