LAST CHANCE TO SCORE NAVIGATIONAL POINTS

The outcome of the Barbados Rally Club's (BRC) second 4 x 4 Navigational Championship will be decided on Sunday, November 13, when competitors face off for the final time this season in the Toyota November Safari.
Competition promises to be intense, as several navigators and drivers are still in contention for the championship’s two main titles. However, Brett Barber, who has assisted in setting the route, has been quick to emphasise the other element of these increasingly-popular navigational events: “The safari is set up to be enjoyable for both driver and navigator - the route is both challenging and fun. The more rain the better".
With assistance from Barber and Peter Bradshaw, the main route-setters have been Barber’s mother Biddy and Paul Marshall. The Toyota November Safari is slated to start at 8.00am on Sunday, November 13, from the Windward Cricket Club in St Philip, following scrutineering at 7.00am.
There are two routes, totalling around 100 kilometres, with a lunchtime stop-over at Sand Dunes Restaurant on the Ermie Bourne Highway from around noon to 1.00pm. The first competitor is expected to reach the finish at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association, Searles, Christ Church at around 5.00pm.
The event will pass through the parishes of St John, St Andrew and St Phillip and competitors will be required to use the Tulip and BRC types of navigation, with the possibility of a third type, which will be discussed at the briefing meeting.
The briefing meeting is next Tuesday (November 8) at 7.00pm at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association, Searles, Christ Church. The entry fee will be $40 per vehicle, plus $40 insurance, with an additional $35 temporary membership for each non-BRC member – both navigator and driver must be Club members.
Entries will close on Thursday, November 10, at 5.00pm at Autozone Inc on Fontabelle, although an additional late entry fee of $15 will be applied to all entries taken after the end of Tuesday’s briefing meeting.
Prospective competitors who are new to navigational events, or new to off-roading, are encouraged to visit the web site www.rallynut.com; in the navigational rallying section, which is regularly updated, there are tutorials on the different types of navigation, as well as a couple of practice BRC routes. For drivers, there is a new section to do with 4x4 driving techniques.
