Busy season of motor sport ahead for Barbados

Nearly 50 events to be organised by the seven sporting Member Clubs of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) are listed on the BMF’s Approved 2016 Calendar, published today (February 11). The first two have already been run, with the remaining dates stretching until the last weekend of November.

  A broad cross-section of motor sport disciplines is covered, from grass-roots autocross through circuit racing for cars, karts and motorcycles and drag racing to off-road 4x4 navigational events, rallycross, rallysprints, special stage rallies and speed events.

FRIENDS REUNITED ON SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2016

Four British friends who last rallied together on one of the world’s toughest events almost a decade ago will be reunited in competition for the first time since then on Sol Rally Barbados 2016. They are among more than 50 overseas entries so far posted on the official web site – www.rallybarbados.net - for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, which will run from Friday to Sunday, June 3 to 5.

REPEAT VISITORS PREPARE FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

With three months to go before their cars are due to be shipped from Portsmouth, rally teams across the United Kingdom are making preparations for their annual trip to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol Rally Barbados 2016. Among more than 30 repeat visitors already entered, drivers Kenny Hall, Joe McQuillan and Simon Wallis and their co-drivers will have notched up more than 50 visits between them when they arrive this year.

BRITISH CREW SEEKING FUN AT SOL RALLY BARBADOS

British couple Marcel Freling and Karen Robinson are seeking to revive the “fun factor” in their rallying by competing in Sol Rally Barbados 2016. The multiple award-winners in the hotly-contested British Trial & Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) Championship over the past 12 years are among more than 10 first-time overseas crews who have entered the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event.

PROCTER RETURNS FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2016

Britain’s Kevin Procter will make his 11th appearance in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event this year, when he lines up for Sol Rally Barbados 2016 at the wheel of his familiar Subaru Impreza WRC S7. Procter confirmed his entry yesterday (Thursday) during a brief family holiday in the island to see in the New Year.

LOCAL CHAMPIONS SIGN UP FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Double Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Champion Driver Rhett Watson heads six local 2015 title-winners whose entries for Sol Rally Barbados 2016 are listed among nearly 60 already posted on-line at www.rallybarbados.net. Having celebrated the 25th Anniversary of its premier event this year, the BRC has confirmed that Sol RB16 will run from June 3 to 5, with Scrutineering and King of the Hill on May 28/29.

WATSON CLAIMS SECOND HAT-TRICK OF TITLES

Rhett Watson was honoured for his second consecutive clean sweep of titles at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving at Colleton, St John, on Saturday evening (December 5). The Champion Driver also carried away the SuperModified 12 and 2wd trophies (with co-driver James Hutchinson), as nearly 80 members of the island’s motor sport fraternity were rewarded for their efforts in 2015, including the Club’s invaluable volunteer marshals, who earend some of the loudest applause.

SWANN CONFIRMS FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2016

Fresh from completing a hat-trick of wins in the only major forest rally in the south of England two weeks ago, Sol Rally Barbados regular Rob Swann has confirmed his entry for Sol RB16. With five months to go before the closing date, entries posted on-line at www.rallybarbados.net have soared past 50, with all but a handful from overseas.

WHY DO WE DO IT?

Modern rally cars are fine examples of how global motorsport has changed over the last 20 years. By proving technological advances in competition, rally car designers and engineers enable manufacturers to demonstrate their technical prowess ahead of new product introduction to consumers. This, of course, also maintains professional motorsport teams at the forefront of automotive technology.

In just over four weeks since on-line entries opened on October 1 on the official web site – www.rallybarbados.net – 40 crews have already posted their intention to compete in Sol Rally Barbados 2016.
