2014 Rally Action Continues with the Sol Go Further June Safari Rally

Barbados’ exciting 2014 motorsport calendar continues this weekend when Sol partners with the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) to present the Sol Go Even Further June Safari Rally, part of the BRC’s Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship.

Coming exactly one month after the resounding success of the immensely popular Sol Rally Barbados 2014, the “June Rally” on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th, will mark the 58th running of the Caribbean’s oldest motor sport event with a continuous history, and the third year running of sponsorship by Sol.

General Manager of SOL (BARBADOS) LTD, Ezra Prescod, officially presented MudDogs Chairman Courteney “Ricky” Holder with the sponsorship cheque during a recent visit to the company’s Spring Garden offices. Prescod said Sol was pleased to continue its investment in supporting the off-roading segment of motorsport in Barbados.

“The Sol June Safari Rally is one of the most exciting events of the MudDogs Safari Championship and its popularity with motorsport fans continues to grow. Fans love the extreme action as competitors pit their skills against the most challenging of terrain. MudDogs really is the epitome of high performance sport and it’s a great fit for Sol since we are passionate about producing and supplying high performance premium fuels and lubricants to aid competitors in their drive to the top,” Prescod stated.

MudDogs Chairman, Courteney “Ricky” Holder thanked Sol for its continued support of the event.

“We are absolutely pleased with the assistance from Sol as they continue to throw their support behind this event. Our competitors really need the very best fuels and lubricants and we encourage them and everyone else looking for performance from their vehicles to continue using both Sol and Shell products.” Rayside stated.

The long journey to the pinnacle of off-road mastery begins at Sol Warrens at 2.00pm on Saturday, June 28, for the first of four routes, which will take competitors and their larger-than-life vehicles across the island on an 18-hour adventure.

MudDog fans looking to take in the grand finale can gather at the recently-refurbished and re-launched Marco Polo Bar & Grill in St Philip (formerly Crane Palms Restaurant) where competitors should be arriving from around 8.00am Sunday.

In addition to sponsoring the event, Sol will also present each competing crew with Sol Go Further fuel vouchers. The company will also be supporting veteran competitors and course setters Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal, for the second year running, in their immaculately prepared Shell Rimula/Shell Spirax/Simpson Motors Isuzu D-Max. The daring duo were in action last year as route-setters. However, this year they will be in the thick of things, and with a win in this year’s event, Alleyne could become one of only two competitors to have won the June Rally six times. He said the partnership with Sol and Shell was a winning relationship.

“The June Rally is my favourite event and we are definitely looking to do well again this year. The vehicle is working well, and I really have high praise for the Shell lubricants, both Rimula and Spirax brands of heavy-duty engine oil, gear and transmissions lubricants. We used to have a 2nd gear problem which has now been solved since we began using these products.”
