FINAL SHOWDOWN FOR THE MUD DOGS

Competitors are making final preparations ahead of Sunday’s (November 15) Nassco November Safari, the fourth and final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship; more than 20 crews were entered by last night’s (Tuesday) Briefing Meeting, with none of the leading points-scorers missing.
During the meeting, Nassco’s Neil Corbin reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Mud Dogs, and further strengthened this by announcing new awards for the top three crews: Sunday’s winning crew will take home $500.00 in credit at Nassco, with $300 and $200 on offer to those finishing second and third.
But taking home those prizes will not come easy, as this year’s final event has been set by 2005 Champions Neil Barnard and Barry Gale. Barnard explained: “The first route is predominantly Tulip, with a couple of sections of BRC, while the second route is a real 50/50 mix of BRC and Tulip. The BRC sections are not long, and the rally in general is neither a car-breaker nor a mind-bender – well, it shouldn't be! It should be good fun for both Pros and Novices.”
Crews must assemble at Gale’s Hatcheries, Mangrove, St Philip, by 7.00am, with the first crew scheduled to leave at 8.01am. The lunchtime stop-over will be at Automotive Art, Welches, some time between 12.30 and 1.00pm, with the finish at Black Bess in St Peter around 5.00pm, where the canteen will be fully-stocked for an evening social.
Mud Dogs Chairman Leslie Alleyne notes: “It promises to be an exciting day, with a Driver Challenge close to the start. Spectators interested in watching the challenge are asked to meet at the start, where they will be given directions to the challenge site.
“The route setters have been very clever, by changing up the styles between the two routes. Barry has set the first half, Neil has set the second half – for the navigator, this means that it will be difficult to get into a groove. The two halves will come together today as Barry re-checks Neil's and vice versa.”
The Prizegiving for the Nassco November Safari will be held at 7.00pm at the Barbados BCTSA Club House on Tuesday, November 17, once the results have been declared final.
