CLOSE CONTEST IN SAFARI CHAMPIONSHIP

Since the media release issued yesterday under the above heading, the decision has been made to postpone the August Safari until the weekend of September 22-23 . . . thereby making it the BRC September Safari. The briefing meeting mentioned for tomorrow evening (August 21) will now take place on Tuesday, September 18.
The key reason for the change is that, due to the recent heavy rains island-wide, some areas of the route, which had already been set, are now virtually impassible, or no longer thought to be safe due to slippage.
One of the joint route-setters, Barry Gale, said: “With just a few days remaining until the original scheduled date, I really don’t think we could have delivered the calibre of event which everyone has come to expect. We’re sorry to all for the inconvenience, but look forward to an enjoyable event in September.”
