Procter and Bird set to become part of rallying history in April

Following a successful shakedown at the Snetterton Stage Rally in the east of England on Sunday (February 18), Stuart Austin has confirmed that he will compete in Sol Rally Barbados for the third consecutive year. With some performance upgrades to his Accra Beach Hotel and Spa/Austin Powell Ltd/Cancer Research Subaru Impreza and a new co-driver, Austin finished 29th overall and third in class.

Rally Club marks 60 years with Lifetime Achievement Awards

Fresh from a class win on Saturday’s (February 10) Jack Neal Memorial Rally at Blyton Park in the UK, former regional Stage Rally Champion Brandon Smith has confirmed he will return this year to compete in Sol Rally Barbados, an event he describes as “magical”. With co-driver Dylan Thomas, he will campaign his BCS Auto Repairs Darrian T9GTR+ in Group B.

Lifetime Achievement Awards recognise members’ contributions

Six decades of motor sport were celebrated on Saturday evening (February 3) when the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) combined its Annual Prizegiving at Mahogany Ridge, St Thomas, with a celebration of its 60th Anniversary, reached in 2017. The outstanding contributions of four long-standing members were rewarded with Lifetime Achievement Awards, while a number of the Club’s commercial partners were also recognised, along with the marshals, medical support teams and the media.

Vice-President Sealy retires from Barbados Motoring Federation

Former Trinidad & Tobago kart and circuit racing Champion David Coelho is the first regional entry to be confirmed for Sol Rally Barbados 2018. His Subway/Zanzibar/Kaizan Sushi Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX brings to eight the number of four-wheel-drive cars so far listed, with more than 20 expected to appear on the final entry for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

Changes at Barbados Motoring Federation ahead of new season

As the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) prepares for this weekend’s start of the 2018 motor sport season, it does so without long-standing Vice-President John Sealy, who has retired. In a heartfelt tribute to the former VP, BMF President Andrew Mallalieu acknowledged that “replacing John with just one person is impossible”, so there will be some changes in the BMF structure.

Each will be seeking to add to his previous tally of class wins, while Hill is also homing in on his 20th top 10 finish in the 29-year history of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event.

Barbados connections prepare to kick off new season

Hot on the heels of last week’s promise from popular British competitor Kevin Procter to “come back stronger” for Sol Rally Barbados 2018, two more Ford-mounted returnees have echoed his thoughts. Andrew Costin-Hurley and Nigel Worswick, returning for the 15th and eighth times respectively this year, have both signalled their intention of upping their game after technical issues in Sol RB17.

PROCTER “BACK STRONGER” FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Britain’s Kevin Procter will “come back stronger” when he competes in Sol Rally Barbados for the 13th time this year, having equalled his best-ever result of fourth in Sol RB17. The flamboyant Yorkshireman confirmed his participation shortly after finishing second in last Saturday’s (December 30) Christmas Stages Rally at Croft Circuit in the north of England, where freezing overnight temperatures threw up some tough challenges for the 80-plus starters.

February date for Annual Prizegiving and 60th Celebrations

Following the conclusion of the competition season last month, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has today (December 8) confirmed its list of Champions for 2017, along with the leading points-scorers across all disciplines. For the second year in a row, their achievements will be celebrated at a gathering in the New Year, which will this time also serve to acknowledge and recognise individual contributions made to the Club and to the sport since the BRC was founded six decades ago, in June 1957.

Jamaica’s Panton is Barbados Rally Club 2017 Champion Driver

With a top 10 finish on his debut in Sol Rally Barbados 2017 under his belt, British lawyer Graham Coffey has confirmed that he will return next year for what he describes as a “full-on, amazing, great rally”. His Impreza WRC S12B is one of three Subarus confirmed today (December 4) for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international, alongside those of fellow Brits Rob Swann (S12B) and Simon Wallis (N10), who will each be competing for the 11th time.
