Getting Around Barbados

There are various ways to get around in Barbados during your visit :-

By Foot
Depending where you are staying, if you're close to the amenities you may simply be able to walk! For example, if your hotel/villa is in Holetown, down South in the Gap or Hastings - everything may be close by.

Or, if you're staying all inclusive, then you may have no need to leave your resort - but you'll be missing out on a lot if you don't!

By Bus
Barbados has an excellent bus service, which costs just $2.00 anywhere! The blue buses are ran by the government to a schedule, the yellow buses are privately owned but still followed a specific route (look for the signs in the front window) and go island-wide. The bus signs are very simply - 'To the City' and 'Out of City' for 'towards Bridgetown' and 'away from Bridgetown' - if in doubt, ask!

And last but not (but then again, perhaps!) least are the 'ZR's, these are the little white minibuses (maxi-taxis) that zip about the island. They are also $2 anywhere along their prescribed route and are an inherent part of Bajan (and Caribbean) culture, always full of life, full of noise, and well, full - but always an experience!

By Car
By far the best way is to rent a car while in Barbados and travel the island yourself. There are various hire cars available, the island has its own SatNav so you don't get lost and the drivers are very courteous. Just remember to drive on the left and take care in the wet!
