Mayers keen to keep the lead at BKA round three

As competition intensifies in the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship, points leader Zak Mayers is determined to retain his advantage this weekend. A maximum four wins last month catapulted the Easykart 100cc Juniors class leader to the top of the overall standings ahead of Crane & Equipment Raceday, round three of the championship, which runs off at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (April 7).

It has not all been plain sailing for Mayers, however, with his cousin Jacob and Aeden Bruce providing stiff competition in the class, Jacob a race-winner in February’s opening round. This weekend they will be joined by Oliver Judd, who steps up from the EasyKart 60cc Cadets class where he has shown good form racing against Shamir Eversley; Judd is joint second in the overall standings, 19 points behind Mayers.

Kayleigh Catwell, who has been the BKA’s leading female racer in recent years, shares second place with Judd; in a consistent season, she has claimed five podium finishes and finished lower than fourth only once in Easykart 125cc Lights, the BKA’s fastest category. After missing last month’s races while concentrating on his studies, Calem Maloney returns to action on Sunday, looking to repeat the clean sweep of race wins which had given him the early championship lead in February.

There have so far been three race-winners in this best-subscribed and most competitive class with race wins – Maloney was joined on the list by Colin Bradshaw and Cody Mark last month – while four others apart from Catwell have claimed podium finishes: Aaron Blackett, Raizer Stoute, Sebastian Thompson and Daniel Ullyett.

Sunday’s third round is scheduled for an 9.00am start.
