RACE AGAINST TIME FOR CHAMPIONSHIP LEADERS

Two front-running crews are facing a race against time to prepare their machines for the third round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Ruf 'n' Tuf Navigational Championship, sponsored by Barbados Industries Ltd. It is slated for next Sunday (September 26), and will starting in Speightstown, St Peter.
Derek Gill and Philip McConney, who lie first and second in the Drivers Championship are awaiting parts and both are unsure that they will arrive in time for their vehicles for be put back up. McConney's problems is shared by Kenny Crony, who currently leads the Navigators Championship, although the rules do allow for a crew to change at any point, so Croney could enter with a different driver, if he wished.
From the 8.00am start, the first route will take crews through the areas of Orange Hill, Black Bess, Turners Hall, Cherry Tree Hill, River Bay and Lamberts before the lunch stop at Sand Dunes Resturant on the Ermy Bourne Highway at around 12:30pm. The second route, which is scheduled to start at 1:30pm, will pass through Belleplaine, Lakes, Chalky Mount, Saddleback, Horse Hill, Four Roads and Halton, before finishing at Kendal Sporting in the parish of St. Philip at around 5:30pm.
BRC committee member Lindsay Farmer said: "The route, which uses both tulip and photographic forms of navigation, was set using a Kia Sportage by championship sponsor Marcus 'Sparky' Sabga, and Peter 'Bubbles' Wilkie, with assistance from Mike Ward. Thanks to the effects of the recent weather systems, it should prove a challenging event for both navigator and driver."
The entry fee is $50 per vehicle (limit of two persons per vehicle), which will not only gain entry to the event, but includes lunch. An additional temporary membership fee of $35 is required from each non-BRC member.
Entries open at the briefing meeting, and will close at 12pm on Friday. Both navigator and driver are encouraged to attend the briefing, which is scheduled for 7.00pm on Wednesday, September 22 at Kendal Sporting.
For competitors who may be unfamiliar with all forms of navigation, there is some useful information available on Farmer's web site, www.rallynut.com; it has recently been updated to include a section on navigation by photographs.
The final round of the Ruf 'n' Tuf Navigational Championship is on Sunday, November 7, and is being set by Geoffrey Goddard and Doug Armstrong.
