WATSON DRAWS LEVEL WITH CLARKE IN TITLE CHASE

With five rounds run and just three to go, Daryl Clarke and Rhett Watson are now joint leaders in the battle to become Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Champion Driver for 2014. With only eight points covering the top six drivers, however, the championship is still wide open, and with the year-end dropped score rule yet to be taken into account.

SKEETE AND VENEZIA WIN SOL RALLY BARBADOS

Roger Skeete returned to the top step of the Sol Rally Barbados podium at the weekend (May 30-June 1) for the first time since 2011, claiming his 13th victory in the 25-year history of the island’s premier event and extending his remarkable record. As he drove his Subaru Impreza WRC S12 into Parc Ferme at the finish, he said: “Fantastic. After the last two years, I am very happy with the result.”

FIRST-CLASS ENTRY FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS

The final running order for Sol Rally Barbados (May 30-June 1), published in advance of this evening’s Briefing Meeting and Welcome Party by the Barbados Rally Club, lists competitors from 14 nations among the 84 crews for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, headed by a record-equalling entry in the WRC classes.

BIRD WINS SCOTIABANK KING OF THE HILL

Former UK National Rally Champion Paul Bird won Scotiabank King of the Hill yesterday (Sunday), despite felling a road sign on his final run in a dramatic spin in front of thousands of spectators. He admitted: “I just tried something different, and it didn’t work!” . . . but it didn’t matter, either, as his second-run time was good enough to win by 12/100ths of a second, the smallest margin of victory in the event’s history.

ISLAND GETS READY FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2014

Local, international and regional competitors are making last-minute preparations for Sunday’s (May 25) Scotiabank King of the Hill, the final shakedown ahead of the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, Sol Rally Barbados 2014 (May 30-June 1) . . . and Simpson Motors Scrutineering tomorrow (Saturday) will give fans their first chance to see more than 10 cars new to the island.

FINAL COUNTDOWN FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2014

The final countdown is well under way for Sol Rally Barbados 2014. Competitors, their families and supporters have been arriving at the island’s Grantley Adams International Airport daily since the weekend, with the cargo hold of two inbound Virgin Atlantic Airways flights also carrying a Ford Focus rally car, one each for Trinidad’s John Powell and Britain’s Paul Bird, who is aiming for a hat-trick of victories in this year’s event.
