MudDogs return to action Sunday in September Safari

Current leaders of the Barbados Rally Club's (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship, Alexander Gill and Gary Mendes, will start Sunday's (September 13) Savvy on the Bay September Safari at number one in their Isuzu DMax.

  With two rounds down and two to go, driver Gill and navigator Mendes have 120 points, giving them a 12-point lead in the overall standings. Joint second are Ben Norris and Kirk Watkins (Jeep Rubicon) and Charles Clarke and Austin Barber, the youngest crew in the championship and also the leaders of Class B.

  While Norris and Watkins are not competing on Sunday, Clarke and Barber will be campaigning their Daihatsu Rocky, hoping for a hat-trick of Class B wins this year. George Mendes (Suzuki Vitara) lies second to Clarke in the Class B driver standings, while Leslie Evanson is second to Barber among the navigators, having sat with Nad Cyrus and Rebecca Clarke.

  Following their victory in the Chefette MudDogs June Safari, Ben Moore and Andrew Croney (Isuzu DMax) will be keen to build on the success of their new partnership.

  Route-setters Wayne Clarke and daughter Rebecca, who was the highest-placed Female Driver in last year's MudDogs Championship, have mapped out two routes, each of around 70 kilometres. The first crew will leave the premises of KG Enterprises in The Belle at 8.01am on Sunday, heading inland to St George and through the St John valley before the lunch halt at Chefette Six Roads in St Philip.

  After the restart, crews will head to Ragged Point and Three Houses before working their way back through the central parishes to the finish at Chefette Warrens.

  The results will be posted at Savvy on the Bay, Bridgetown, at 6.00pm next Tuesday (September 15), followed by the Prizegiving.
