Esuf returns as Radicals share limelight with Street Digs

Suleman Esuf is a nine-time race-winner and multiple Champion in a Radical SR3 RS

Former multiple Suzuki Challenge Series Champion Suleman Esuf will return to the category at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (August 28) in round two of the Radical Caribbean Cup. And he will be joined on the grid for the first time by his brother Ahmed, who will also race with the Fast Parts team, bringing to 42 the number of drivers to have competed in the Suzuki-powered Radicals since the series was launched in 2015.

Joining the region’s fastest race cars on the schedule for Bushy Park Motorsports Inc’s (BPMSI) second race meet of the season will be Street Digs, the new-for-2022 initiative which has attracted a large number of newcomers to the St Philip facility’s one-eighth-of-a-mile drag strip on Friday evenings in recent months.
All-rounder Esuf, who first came to prominence as a successful drag racer, enjoys one of the highest win rates in the SR3 Cup; his 12 wins and 16 further podium finishes in 48 races in the Bushy Park-based SCS contributed to four Championship titles. Since then he has raced only rarely in the regional series, having switched to rallying, first with a BMW M3, then a Ford Fiesta R5, which was replaced this year by a BMW 1M Coupe.
On Sunday, he will come up against familiar rivals, led by the 2017 Winter Champion, Guyana’s Kristian Jeffrey, who won twice in the opening round at Bushy Park in July to snatch the early advantage in the 2022 RCC and place his home country in the lead of the Nations Cup. With four territories represented in this year’s series, ‘Sol’ can also expect strong competition from Trinidad & Tobago’s Kristian Boodoosingh, who claimed three podium finishes in the season-opener, and Jamaica’s Senna Summerbell Jnr.
He will be joined in the Barbados team by Justin, Mark and Sean Maloney, and now also his brother Ahmed. A relative newcomer to competition, with circuit racing experience in a Honda Civic, rallying in a BMW M3, Ahmed has also contested Autocross and drag racing events in a Radical SR1.
In addition to the RCC and Street Digs, Sunday’s programme, which kicks off at 11.00am, will also include the second round of the BPMSI Championship. After practice and qualifying sessions for the RCC and BPMSI groups, the first of four sessions of Street Digs is scheduled for 12.20am. As usual, there will be three races each for the RCC (10 laps) and BPMSI groups (6 laps).

Sunday, August 28 (Gate 3 opens at 10.00am, tickets on sale) - General Admission, Clubhouse and 4x4 Zone Bds $20; children under 12 free. Food and drink on sale, coolers welcome (no glass bottles). Participation fee for Street Digs $50 (entry via VVIP gate)
