Overseas entries for Rally Barbados near maximum

Overseas entries for Rally Barbados 2024 (May 31-June 2) are nearing capacity just two months after on-line registrations opened. The provisional entry list passed 50 last weekend with International and Regional entries closing in on maximum numbers, and the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is urging competitors to lodge their entries soon to avoid disappointment.

Watson motivated for step up to FIA R5 class

Former Barbados Rally Club (BRC) 2wd Champion Logan Watson is buzzing about his step up to the FIA R5 class in 2024, as he becomes the first local entry confirmed for Rally Barbados 2024 (May 31-June 2). The new owner of the Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo driven by Zane Maloney in Sol RB23 says: “I feel good about this new chapter. This car has really brought the motivation level back up to the top.”

Mull class-winners take up Rally Barbados prize

Scotland’s Stewart Morrison has taken over the prize entry to Rally Barbados 2024 (May 31-June 2) offered at the Beatson’s Building Supplies Mull Rally in the UK last October after the initial winner of the draw, Mike Curry, found he could not make the trip. Supported by Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc, the prize covers entry to RB24 and the previous weekend’s King of the Hill, inclusive of return shipping for Morrison’s Ford Escort MkII from the UK to Barbados.

BMF congratulates Simpson on 2024 Indycar drive

The Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) has congratulated two-time island karting champion Kyffin Simpson on being signed by Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) for the 2024 NTT IndyCar Series. Competing in single-seaters and sports cars this year in Europe and the United States, the 19-year-old has won the LMP2 class and overall European Le Mans Series titles as well as finishing on the podium in Indy NXT by Firestone races, in which he was the youngest driver on the grid.

Hinkson wins E-Sports title; Barbados flag in WRC SIM

Mark-Anthony Hinkson has won the E-Sports R5 Rally Championship, presented by First Citizens, for the second time. In a dominant performance, the reigning champion won all five rounds of the competition, which is administered by Caribbean Sim Motorsport (CSM), a Member Club of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF).

Barbadian elected to world motor sport anti-doping post

Barbadian Dr Adrian Lorde OBE has been elected to serve on the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the world governing body of motor sport. His election was confirmed at the FIA General Assembly in Baku, Azerbaijan (December 8), which was attended by the President of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) Senator Andrew Mallalieu.

Host of new Champions for Barbados Rally Club in 2023

Fifteen new Champions have been added to the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Roll of Honour during 2023. In rallying and speed events, Ian Warren celebrates his 25th year in motor sport as the BRC’s Champion Driver for the first time and Roger Mayers has claimed his first 2wd Championship, while five other drivers have joined the list of Class Champions.

BMF duo confirmed as directors of FIM North America

Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) Vice-President David Williams and the BMF’s motorcycle representative Roger Worme have been appointed directors of the North America Continental Union (CONU) of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Their appointments were confirmed by FIM North America President Robert Dingman at the General Assembly of the world governing body of motorcycle sport in Liverpool in the north of England (December 1), which Williams attended.

Overseas entry filling early for Rally Barbados 2024

Rally Barbados 2024 (May 31 to June 2) has attracted strong interest from repeat visitors and newcomers alike since the six-month window to enter opened just over three weeks ago. More than half the allocated overseas entry slots have already been filled, including four rally cars not seen by local fans before, among them the first MINI Cooper to compete in the island for nearly 20 years.

Barbados Motoring Federation releases 2024 calendar

The Barbados Motoring Federation’s (BMF) calendar for 2024 published today (December 4) lists 52 events to run between February and December. Although the current motor sport season has not yet ended – there is drag racing at Bushy Park this Sunday (December 10) – the BMF has confirmed that nearly 400 Barbadians and 100 overseas visitors competed in motor sport events in the island this year.
