FEAST OF ACTION AT CHEFETTE APRIL SAFARI

Organisers of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship are promising a real feast of action for competitors and spectators alike when the second event in the calendar, the Chefette April Safari, runs off on Saturday (April 17).
Nearly 30 crews are entered, including reigning Champion Driver and Navigator Darrin White and Robert Warren (Flyin’ Fish/Lucky Locks Nissan Frontier), who were absent as competitors from the championship’s opening round, the ARMAG March Safari, as they had been the route-setters.
A day of tough competition is in prospect, as White and Warren will face every crew that finished in the top 10 in March, the only minor change to that line-up being in the Pitbull Energy Drink/ACE Engineering Land Rover Discovery of highest-placed Novice Driver Ben Norris, who lies sixth in the overall standings; he will have Darnley Rayside as Navigator, in the absence of Rhett Watson.
The event will run between three of the sponsor’s most popular outlets, starting at Chefette Six Roads at 2.01pm; during the Briefing Meeting last night (Tuesday), it was confirmed that there will be a driver challenge by the old satellite station in Bath, St John, roughly two hours into the first route at around 4.00pm.
The stop over at approximately 6.30pm will be at Chefette Charles Rowe Bridge – competitors will enjoy dinner compliments of the sponsor – while the finish around five hours later will be at Chefette Warrens. The event will pass through the parishes of St Philip, St John, St George, Christ Church and St Michael.
The first route has been set by Robin Hinds and Colin Goodman, the second by Chris O’Neal and 2008 Champion Driver and BRC Mud Dogs Chairman Leslie Alleyne. In terms of navigation, crews will be using the tulip system for around 85 per cent of the route and the home-grown BRC system for the remaining 15 per cent.
The Prizegiving for the Chefette April Safari will be held at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association Club House at Searles, Christ Church, on Monday (April 19), once results have been declared final shortly after 6.30pm.
With one round run, Dustin Edwards and Ryan Corbin respectively lead the driver and navigator standings on 60 points, with Barry Gale/Neil Barnard second on 58 and Dominic Brooker/Stephen Dear third on 56. Each competitor’s best four scores from the five events will count.
