MUD DOGS PREPARE FOR CHEFETTE APRIL SAFARI

Encouraged by the recent change in the weather, competitors in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship are looking forward to their second event, the Chefette April Safari, slated for Saturday, April 17.
The event will run between three of the sponsor’s most popular outlets, starting at Chefette Six Roads at 2.01pm; the stop over at approximately 6.30pm will be at Chefette Charles Rowe Bridge – competitors will enjoy dinner compliments of the sponsor – while the finish around five hours later will be at Chefette Warrens.
The first route has been set by Robin Hinds and Colin Goodman, the second by Chris O’Neal and Leslie Alleyne. BRC Mud Dogs Chairman Alleyne noted: “In terms of navigation, it works out at around 85 per cent tulip and around 15 per cent BRC. The route-setters will be re-checking each other's route, and we are very excited about the routes. I can promise that the Chefette Safari will be a battle to the end.
“And I must also say a big thank-you to Chefette for the enthusiastic way they have come on board as sponsor, also providing dinner at the stop over. Competitors are going to need all their energy for this event, and a hearty meal will certainly help.
“Finally, there will be driver challenges as well. We have found some mud, so we will get our competitors dirty at least twice!”
With one round run, Dustin Edwards and Ryan Corbin (Blockman/SDRR Hydraulic & Industrial Spares/Crane & Equipment Toyota Hilux) respectively lead the driver and navigator standings on 60 points, with Barry Gale/Neil Barnard (Gale’s Agro Products/redlinefuels.com Ford Ranger) second on 58 and Dominic Brooker/Stephen Dear (SDRR Hydraulic & Industrial Spares/Next Generation Electrical/Joe Brooker's Building Toyota Hilux) third on 56. Each competitor’s best four scores from the five events will count.
Entries are now open at Motorsport Services, Haggatt Hall, St Michael, and will close at 2.00pm next Tuesday (April 13); the Briefing Meeting will be held at 7.00pm the same evening at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association Club House at Searles, Christ Church. That will also be the venue for the Prizegiving, once results are confirmed, the following Monday (April 19) at 6.30pm.

The BRC Mud Dogs Safari Championship comprises seven events, five off-road navigational rallies run under the Safari title and two MudFests; trophies will be awarded at each event. As before, the five Safaris include separate Championships for Navigator and Driver, with additional special awards including highest-placed novice and female; for the MudFests, there will be one championship rewarding the highest-placed drivers.
