RUF ’n’ TUF TO SPONSOR NEW BRC CHAMPIONSHIP

Following on from its determined efforts to revive navigational rallying last year, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has secured sponsorship for a fully-fledged championship in 2004.
The BRC Ruf ’n’ Tuf Navigational Championship will comprise four rounds, the first catering for cars and 4 x 4 vehicles, the remaining events restricted to 4 x 4s; the opening round will take place this Saturday, March 13, following a briefing meeting on Tuesday evening (March 9) at Kendall Sporting.
Lindsay Farmer, who was instrumental in the Club’s revival of the discipline last year, said this week: “We ran three events, two of which were just for 4x4s, and never had fewer than 20 crews participate. This year, we have been fortunate enough to secure a sponsor, so we can run a full championship – our thanks go to Marcus Sabga of Barbados Garment Industries for his generous support.”
This weekend’s first event will start from SuperCentre at Warrens at 2.00pm on Saturday, finishing at the Vaucluse Raceway in St Thomas at around 7.30pm, after which refreshments will be on sale. The route has been set by experienced Club members Richard Daniel and Jason Downey, using both Tulip and BRC types of navigation.
Farmer added: “The route was set using a MINI, so there is no reason why we should not expect a good turn-out of cars, as well as 4 x 4s.”
The briefing meeting, at which entries will open, will start at 7.00pm on Tuesday; both driver and navigator are encouraged to attend. The entry fee for the event is $30 per vehicle, and entrants will need to hand in a completed championship entry form.
The remaining rounds of the new BRC/Ruf ’n’ Tuf Navigational Championship are: Saturday/Sunday, June 26/27; Sunday, September 19; Sunday, November 7.
