Forty trips – and counting – for repeat visitors

With five more entries from the UK confirmed today (March 10) for Sol Rally Barbados 2017 – two from newcomers to the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) blue riband event – local drivers right through the field, not just those chasing outright victory, will be pitting their skills against visiting crews. All 15 classes now have at least one entry, with only four lacking an overseas crew, but there are more announcements to come.

Sol Rally Barbados will play host to a family reunion in 2017 as first-time participants, husband and wife Jon and Alison Trenholme, will be joined by Jon’s sister Katharine, who is making the 23,000-mile round trip to the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event from her home in Brisbane, Australia, for only their second get-together in four years.

CEREMONIAL START FOR SOL RALLY BARBADOS 2017

Friday night stages confirmed as updated FAQ document published

Following a major rethink of Friday evening’s programme, the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has confirmed the return of a Ceremonial Start for Sol Rally Barbados 2017, to be presented at Sol Warrens. After being introduced to the media and spectators on crossing the start ramp, crews will immediately transit to the Special Stages scheduled in the north of the island.

Snetterton Stages shakedown for Swann on Sunday

Two long-standing British supporters of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event have been hard at work refreshing their respective Fords in readiness for Sol Rally Barbados 2017, when they will reach a total of 21 visits between them. Andrew Costin-Hurley returns for the 14th time since his debut in 2003, while Nigel Worswick has been every year since 2011.

Ex-Champion’s return confirmed as on-line entry goes ‘live’

Reigning Trinidad & Tobago Rally Club (TTRC) Group A Champion Ryan Pinheiro will make his Sol Rally Barbados debut this year, alongside fellow-countryman David Coelho, who won the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Group N Championship in 2015. The first regional entries to be confirmed, their two Mitsubishi Lancer Evos bring to eight the number of four-wheel-drive cars so far listed, with more than 20 expected to appear on the final entry.

Rally Club volunteers recognised for service

More than 40 of the island’s motor sport volunteers were recognised for their commitment to the sport at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving at The Boatyard in Bridgetown on Saturday evening (February 4), as Daryl Clarke was crowned the Club’s Champion Driver for 2016. Nearly 100 of the island’s motor sport fraternity shared in more than 120 trophies and associated awards.

Shipping date for European entries from Portsmouth confirmed

Three ex-works Subarus campaigned in period by 2003 FIA World Rally Champion Petter Solberg are confirmed for Sol Rally Barbados 2017. The Norwegian, who won two more FIA titles, in 2014 & ’15, when he switched to the World Rallycross Championship, finished second twice and claimed a further four top six finishes in these cars in the final three years before Subaru withdrew from the WRC at the end of 2008.

A new spectator-focussed Rally Show, a revised format for Scrutineering and a change of location for ‘Rally Central’ - the secure facility and workshop that plays host to the majority of visiting crews - are among changes for Sol Rally Barbados 2017 confirmed in outline today (January 28) by the organising Barbados Rally Club (BRC).

SHAKE–UP FOR 2017 RALLY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Driver’s and Class Championship will have a new look for its 60th Anniversary year in 2017, with a later start to the season and a different spread of events across the calendar. Further changes to the individual format of events and the points-scoring system remain a work in progress, following discussions during a wide-ranging Members Meeting last evening (January 17) at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Clubhouse, Searles, Christ Church.

Barbados Rally Club “represented very well”

The Sol Rally Barbados stand at Europe's largest motor sport show, Autosport International (ASI), has been a hive of activity over the past four days (January 12-15). Competitors past, present and future have been showing their support for the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International, while a host of spectators registered with tour specialists Rally Travel, hoping to win an Official Spectator Package to Sol RB17.
