SOL RALLY BARBADOS TARGETS TWO-WHEEL-DRIVES

The organisers of Sol Rally Barbados, the Caribbean’s biggest annual international motor sport event, are targetting the most exciting two-wheel-drive cars in Europe to compete in next year’s event, which will be staged over the weekend of June 4/5.   The Barbados Rally Club (BRC), which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007, has enjoyed steady growth in its blue riband event, which has grown from a one-day rally for around 30 local competitors in 1990 into one of the strongest sporting brand names in the region and a major contributor to the island’s sports-tourism product.

RALLY CLUB CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL SEASON

Seventy members of the island’s motor sport fraternity were honoured at the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Annual Prizegiving on Saturday evening (November 20); awards included return tickets to the UK and all-inclusive ‘staycation’ weekends at the Sea Breeze Beach Hotel, presented by Beverley Layne, marketing co-ordinator of Virgin Atlantic, title sponsor of the BRC Driver’s and Class Championships. Club officials, meanwhile, celebrated an unexpectedly successful season.

GALE DRAWS CLOSER TO RALLY CLUB TITLE

Production 4 class leader Barry Gale (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) has moved one step closer to winning the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Overall Class Championship; with six class wins in the nine rounds so far run, he is now eight points clear of SuperModified 11 leader Mark Hamilton (Ford Escort MkII), who is now the only driver who could deny him the title.

Edwards and Corbin are 2010 Mud Dogs Champions The final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship – the Nassco October Safari – brought the season to a successful conclusion last Sunday (October 17) as “surprised” Novices Adrian Sinckler and Andre Murrell (Suzuki Samurai) became the fifth different winning crew in as many events.

NASSCO SAFARI ‘LAST CHANCE SALOON’ FOR MUD DOGS

The fifth and final round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship – the Nassco October Safari – provides crews with their last chance to score points in this competitive series on Sunday (October 17).
The first crew will leave the start at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Club House at Searles, Christ Church, at 8.01am for the first of two routes; the stopover will be at Pool Plantation, St John, at approximately 11.00am, with the finish back at the BCTSA Club House at Searles slated for around 4.00pm.

NASSCO OCTOBER SAFARI TO END MUD DOGS SEASON

Competitors in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship are preparing for their last chance to score points this season, which culminates in the Nassco October Safari, slated for Sunday, October 17.
The recent weather system in the Atlantic Ocean, which this week caused major flooding, particularly in the west of the island, has really helped put the ‘Mud’ back into Mud Dogs for the fifth and final Safari of the year, which promises to be a major challenge for all crews.

NOVICE CREW WIN REGIONAL FIRE & SECURITY SAFARI

Following this year’s established form for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Mud Dogs Safari Championship, last Sunday’s (September 5) Regional Fire & Security September Safari produced the fourth different winners in as many events, as Novice crew Ben Norris and Darnley Rayside claimed their first overall victory in the Electric Avenue/Pitbull Energy Drink/Ace Engineering Land Rover Discovery.

As competitors make their final preparations for this weekend’s Regional Fire & Security September Safari (Sunday, September 5), increasingly unpredictable weather patterns around the island suggest that the 22 crews will face a challenging event.
