BOURNE AND SKEETE FACE OFF AGAIN

More than 30 crews will line up on Sunday (October 21) for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) last rally of the 2007 season. The Texaco BRC Gravel Rally is scheduled to start at 8.45am from Searles Factory Yard and will comprise eight special stages, four in each direction of a course at Searles Plantation.
The event is the fifth and final round of the Texaco BRC Rally Championship and, although champion-elect Paul Bourne’s total cannot be matched, there is a battle on for the places. No fewer than four drivers in the current top 10 are absent on Sunday, so there is considerable scope for change.
Start number one has been allocated to Rally Barbados winners Bourne and Stuart Maloney in the BF Goodrich/Plus Subaru Impreza WRC; although Bourne has been dominant on the local scene this year, he can still expect a strong challenge from Roger Skeete, who will again have Ian Griffith co-driving in the Havoline/Michelin/FB Batteries Ford Escort WRC he acquired earlier this year.
Roger Hill and Graham Gittens start at number three in the Mobil 1/Nassco/Motormac Toyota Celica GT4, which will be merged up to Modified 8-WRC to join Bourne and Skeete, in the absence of any other M8-A entries; completing this Group will be Sean Dowding/Jason Cozier (Subaru Impreza).
Group N promises some lively competition – seeded highest in the Group are the on-form Neil Armstrong and Barry Ward (Shell Helix/Hankook/Soldier Seal Gunk Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI); the opposition includes Harold Morley, back in BRC action after an absence of some months. With regular co-driver Geoff Goddard and the ex-John Powell Subaru Impreza, he returns to Production 4, in which he was Group Champion in 2003. Also in the mix are Geoff Noel/Kriegg Yearwood (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) and Ryan Hutchinson/Melissa Blades (Toyota Celica GT4).
Behind the four-wheel-drive entries, another good battle is expected among the two-wheel-drive cars. Sean Gill and Michael Cummins (First Caribbean VISA/Shell V-Power/Automotive Art Suzuki Swift) are seeded at the front of this Group, where they will be chased hard by Ian Warren/Matthew Staffner (MQI Collision Repair Centre/Subzero Services Ltd/Details Car Valet Inc Peugeot 206), Nicholas Gill/Mark Hamilton (Castrol Syntec/Hennessy/Vita Malt/Lysol/Listerine/McEnearney Quality Inc/Mazda Genuine Parts Mazda 3) and Jonathan Still/Heath Hazell (Red Bull/Hitachi Power Tools/Philips Lighting/Crane & Equipment BMW M3).
Sunday’s event is scheduled to finish at around 4.00pm at the BCTSA Clubhouse, where an awards ceremony will be staged.
