BOURNE, MANNING, MAYERS, SKEETE CONFIRMED

Motor sport enthusiasts look set to enjoy the first showdown of the season between the island’s ‘Big Four’ on Sunday (September 28) when the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) stages its first Loose Sprint of the year, at the Black Bess Plantation, St Peter. The event is slated for an 8.00am start.
The running order, released on Friday, showed Paul Bourne, Trevor Manning, Roger Mayers and Roger Skeete all confirmed as entries for the first rallying event to be staged for more than three months. Thanks to a variety of circumstances, these four had failed to face one another before Rally Barbados, in which fans were robbed of the head-to-head they had so eagerly awaited, following the first-day retirements of Manning, Mayers and Skeete.
First off on Sunday will be Mayers in the Automotive Art/Shell Helix Ford Focus WRC, followed by Bourne (Banks/Pirelli/Texaco/Williams Industries Subaru Impreza WRC) and Skeete (Texaco/Michelin/McEnearney Quality/Consolidated Finance/Carib Ford Escort WRC).
Leading off Modified 8 will be Sean Dowding (Pro Pac/Globe Finance/NPK Construction Mitsubishi Evo V), followed by Manning, whose NP/Sunbeach/Kerridge Simpson Motors Rally Team Mitsubishi Evo V has been extensively rebuilt since his accident in Rally Barbados.
On Wednesday he said: “I’m looking forward to the competition – it looks as though we’ll all be there, me, Roger Mayers, Roger Skeete and Paul Bourne, so it should be a good day.”
Manning’s team-mate Sean Gill, is also entered, aiming to keep racking up the points in the club’s 2003 Drivers’ Championship with the Suzuki Ignis. Thanks to his dominant performance in Modified 6 throughout Rally Barbados, he now leads the standings overall, but can’t relax, as his closest challenger, the on-form Edward Corbin (Automotive Art/Corbin’s Garage/Klark-Odio Toyota Corolla SR), will be in action at Black Bess, too.
The day’s action, which had attracted 26 drivers by close of entries, is slated to start at 8.00am.
