Two-car Peugeot entry from Marshall Motorsport

Former New Zealand Junior Rally Champion Craig Marshall will make his Sol Rally Barbados debut this year, following in the wheel-tracks of his father, Kiwi rallying legend Mike Marshall, and brother Nick, who have each made the 28,000-kilometre round trip over the past couple of years. He will be joined by cousin David Proud in a two-car entry with a 13-strong family group travelling to support them . . . and to celebrate ‘Proudy’s birthday, which falls during the trip.

2017 Rally Club thanks tireless Portsmouth volunteers

Having off-loaded fruit and other exports from around the Caribbean, the Geest Line freighter Benguela Stream set sail from Portsmouth in England on Tuesday (April 25) carrying a shipment of 31 rally cars from the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe bound for Sol Rally Barbados 2017. After a 10-day trans-Atlantic voyage, the ship will off-load its precious cargo at the Bridgetown Port . . . including a 45-year-old ex-works Ford Escort MkI, which has undergone a bare-shell rebuild for a nostalgic trip to Barbados.

Scotland will be represented by seven crews in Sol Rally Barbados 2017, following today’s (April 18) announcement of three further entries, which bring the number of overseas cars confirmed for the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event to 35 and the entry in the four-wheel-drive classes to 22.

Despite a shakedown at last Sunday’s (April 9) Alan Healy Memorial Rally at Cadwell Park not going entirely to plan, former UK National Rally Champion Roger Duckworth has confirmed he will compete in Sol Rally Barbados for the seventh consecutive year in his ex-Juha Kankkunen Intrinsys Subaru Impreza WRC S6. Confirmation of Duckworth and newcomer Brandon Smith brings to 32 the total of overseas crews now committed to the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International.

60th Anniversary celebrations to reflect BRC’s founding values

Island fan favourite, British BMW driver Martin ‘Mad-dale’ Stockdale, will have flown more than 140,000 miles in return trips across the Atlantic when he lands at London Gatwick in early June after competing in Sol Rally Barbados 2017 . . . and that’s more than 12 days in the air. This is his 17th straight appearance in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event, which he, wife Glenis and family have not missed since 2001.

Sol Rally Barbados will play host to a family reunion in 2017 as first-time participants, husband and wife Jon and Alison Trenholme, will be joined by Jon’s sister Katharine, who is making the 23,000-mile round trip to the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event from her home in Brisbane, Australia, for only their second get-together in four years.
