Sol Rally Barbados 2023: closest finish for 20 years

New Zealanders Hayden Paddon and John Kennard won last weekend’s (June 9-11) Sol Rally Barbados 2023 after an epic battle with defending champions Dane Skeete and Tyler Mayhew. Lying second going into the last of 20 special stages, the Honda SuperSpecial at Bushy Park Barbados, the Kiwis turned a 1.2-second deficit into victory by just 0.88s, the smallest winning margin for more than 20 years.

Sol Rally Barbados draws highest local entry for 10 years

Sixty local crews have entered Sol Rally Barbados 2023, the highest number for a decade. In addition to the familiar fan favourites at the sharp end of the overall and 2wd battles, two new-build cars will be seen for the first time, while another two return after many years of inactivity, which the organisers see as an indication that rallying is finally recovering from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Huge crowds attend final Sol RB20 shakedown at Stewart’s Hill

Dane Skeete and Tyler Mayhew started their 2020 motor sport campaign in fine style yesterday (Sunday) with victory in Flow King of the Hill, beating Jamaica’s Jeff Panton by just four-hundredths of a second, the smallest winning margin in the 13-year history of the event. Having led after the first of four timed runs, Britain’s Rob Swann finished third, while Barry Mayers claimed two-wheel-drive honours, sixth overall.

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Virgin Atlantic Driver’s Champion of 2009, Geoff Noel, and returnee to the sport Jason Cozier are the joint leaders of this year’s BRC Driver’s Championship after two rounds . . . but there is a long way to go in what promises to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent history.
