QUEST TO FIND NEW RALLY CHAMPION BEGINS

The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 50th Anniversary season looks set to be a vintage one, with a quality entry received for the BRC March Gravel Stages, the opening round of the Texaco BRC Rally Championship this Sunday (March 11); the first rally action in the island for more than four months, the event is eagerly anticipated by competitors and spectators alike.

GOOD START TO RALLY CLUB SEASON

Navigational rally veteran Hal Hunte had high praise for the organisers of the recent Toyo Tires February Safari, which kicked off the Barbados Rally Club's (BRC) 50th Anniversary season. After an evenly-matched contest, Chris Armstrong and Wayne Clarke emerged winners in their Suzuki Samurai, with a total of 328 penalties - third on the first route, they then won route two.

STRONG SUPPORT FOR TOYO TIRES SAFARI

More than half the 36 crews entered for the Toyo Tires February Safari on Sunday (February 11) are in the novice class, promising further continued growth in the sport of navigational rallying; it is the first round of the 2007 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Safari Championship and launches the Club’s 50th Anniversary season.

The Barbados Rally Club's (BRC) 50th Anniversary season kicks off next Sunday (February 11) with the Toyo Tires February Safari, the first of four rounds in the 2007 BRC Safari Championship . . . and the route-setter is promising a challenging event for navigators and drivers alike.

BARBADOS RALLY CLUB TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is to mark its 50th Anniversary in 2007 with a month of activities leading up to the annual staging of the island’s longest-running motor sport event – now titled the June Safari, this will be contested over the weekend of June 9/10. Its forerunner, the June Rally, was first staged in 1957 and led directly to the founding of the island’s oldest motor sport Club.

BOURNE, LINTON AND WARREN THE BIG WINNERS

More than 70 members of the island’s motor sport fraternity were honoured at the Barbados Rally Club’s Annual Awards ceremony on Friday night (November 17), staged at the St Philip residence of vice-chairman Barry Gale. Among the awardees were stage commanders and marshals, whose voluntary contribution to the sport is of such vital importance.

CRONEY AND ALLEYNE WIN SAFARI TITLES

Victory in Sunday’s (November 12) tough final round of the 2006 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Safari Championship made Andrew Croney the season’s Champion Navigator . . . and he has won the title from the Novice class, holding off some seasoned campaigners.
Sunday’s BRC November Safari was not all plain sailing, either, for Croney and his driver for the event, Derek Gill. At the wheel of his new Suzuki Jimny on its maiden safari, Gill had traction problems on some hills and also suffered a cracked windscreen.

BRC NOVEMBER SAFARI SUNDAY

Championship leaders Leslie and Annalee Alleyne will start at number 1 for this Sunday’s (November 12) final round of the 2006 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Safari Championship; by the close of last night’s (Tuesday) briefing meeting, 21 crews had entered, with more anticipated by the Thursday 5.00pm deadline.
The BRC November Safari will start at 8.00am from the car park of Advanced Business Systems in the Warrens Industrial Park, St Michael. Visiting every parish except St Lucy, the event will cover around 140 kilometres, divided into two routes.

SAFARI SEASON APPROACHES CONCLUSION

With just one event to run, Leslie and Annalee Alleyne remain at the head of the points standings in the 2006 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Safari Championship; the last of the four rounds is slated for Sunday, November 12, and a worthy finale to a highly-competitive season is widely anticipated.

LINTON WINS SECOND DRIVER’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Champion of 2002 Adrian Linton claimed his second title on Sunday (October 22), when he clinched the Virgin Atlantic BRC Driver’s Championship in a last-round showdown with season-long rival Ian Warren in the Texaco BRC Gravel Rally; Linton is also the Modified 7 Champion.
