Garcia wins thrilling duel for Caribbean Junior Karting title

Thirteen-year-old Naomi Garcia from Trinidad & Tobago is the new Caribbean Junior Karting Champion. Throughout three days and 12 hard-fought races at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Jamaica at the weekend (July 21-23), she fought a thrilling duel with local racer Zander Williams, the outcome uncertain until the final race, which Garcia won by a margin of just eight-hundredths of a second and, with it, the title by 11 points.

Drivers ready for 2023 Caribbean Junior Karting contest

Thirteen karters aged from 12 to 17 from Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago will contest the third Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy (CJKAT) this weekend (July 21-23) at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Jamaica. The competition is being hosted for the first time by the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA), which will also be staging rounds four and five of its annual championship on the same programme.

Radical Cup headlines 20-race Fast Parts Race Meet

The first-ever double-header for the Radical Caribbean Cup (RCC), which showcases the fastest race cars in the region, headlines an action-packed 20-race programme at the Frankie Boodram Wallerfield International Raceway next weekend (July 22/23). Sponsored by Fast Parts Caribbean and organised by the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association’s (TTASA), the provisional schedule features more than 16 hours of track action over two days.

Thompson is third BKA points leader in three rounds

In what is proving to be a very competitive season, Blake Thompson is the third different leader of the 2023 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship in as many rounds, following the July 2 event at Bushy Park Barbados, sponsored by Crane & Equipment. As racers from the 100cc Easykart Juniors class move to the head of the overall title chase, Thompson leads two-time Overall Champion Daniel Ullyett by five points, with Raizer Stoute third, another 14 points behind.

Corbin, Mayers joint leaders of Rally Club Championship

Neil Corbin and Roger Mayers are joint leaders of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver title chase after four out of seven rounds. With more than 60 drivers having now scored points in the 2023 Driver’s and Class Championships, there are some new names in the top 10 and some close battles brewing in the classes as the season passes the half-way point.

Jamaica to host 2023 Caribbean Junior Karting series

The Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) will host the third Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy (CJKAT) at the Palisadoes International Raceway in two weeks’ time (July 21 to 23). Funded by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile’s (FIA) Sport Grant Programme and administered by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF), the competition is open to kart racers aged between 11 and 17 years.

BKA Championship standings set for shake-up

The holiday season is now under way and the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship is set for a shake-up. A number of front-runners are missing from the entry list for round three, the Crane & Equipment Raceday, which will run off at Bushy Park Barbados this Sunday (July 2).

  Among the absentees are reigning Champion Driver Calem Maloney, who leads the 125cc Lights class and the overall standings this year, and the Mayers cousins Zak and Jacob, who are first and third respectively in the 60cc Cadet class.

Chefette June Safari winner commends newcomers

Leslie Alleyne, who claimed his 11th win in the Chefette MudDogs June Safari last weekend (June 24/25), was quick to commend the performances of the navigational rallying newcomers. For Alleyne’s navigator Chris O’Neal, it was a seventh win on highlight of the MudDogs’ calendar, which this year marked the 66th Anniversary of the formation of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC).

Regional motor sport officials at FIA Conference in Spain

President of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) Senator Andrew Mallalieu and Treasurer Jeanne Crawford attended last week’s (June 20-22) annual Conference of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) held in the Andalucia region of Spain. The world governing body is committed to bringing enhanced value to FIA Clubs, also empower the regions and increase motor sport participation, and decisions were made that will benefit the sport in Barbados and the wider Caribbean.
