SUPERB ENTRY FOR 2005 TEXACO FINALE

A last-minute rush of entries has set up a superb finale to the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) new-for-2005 Texaco BRC Rally Championship . . . thirty-six drivers were listed when entries closed, offering fans the prospect of a very special – and unusual - day of motor sport at Bushy Park in St Philip.

MALONEY TO RUN IN TEXACO FINALE AT BUSHY PARK

Bushy Park lap record-holder Mark Maloney is among members of the Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) who have accepted an invitation from the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) to take part in the final round of the Texaco BRC Rally Championship at the St Philip venue on Sunday (October 16). Scheduled start time is 9.00am.

TIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE TABLE

It is not just the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) new-for-2005 Texaco BRC Rally Championship that will be decided at Bushy Park this Sunday (October 16). The BRC Driver’s Championship, which this year enjoys sponsorship from Virgin Atlantic Airways, is also yet to be resolved as it reaches its eighth and final round at the St Philip racetrack.

TEXACO BRC FINALE SWITCHES TO BUSHY PARK

Mindful of current concerns over the level of inconvenience caused to members of the public by road closures, officials of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) have devised an exciting new format for the deciding round of the Texaco BRC Rally Championship, slated for a 9.00am start on Sunday, October 16.

NAVIGATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CONTINUES

Competitors can expect another tough challenge when the Barbados Rally Club's (BRC) 4 x 4 Navigational Championship continues on Saturday, August 27. The third round of this popular championship - the August 4 x 4 Safari - will start and finish at the Vaucluse Raceway (VRW) in St Thomas.
With a demanding route set by three experienced competitors, Sean Gill, Harry Watkins and Kirk Watkins, the event is scheduled for a 2.00pm start, with competitors expected to complete the day back at VRW at around 10.00pm.

CARNIVAL SUCCESS GIVES HILL POINTS LEAD

Roger ‘Ninja’ Hill tops the list of more than 50 drivers who have scored points in the 2005 Virgin Atlantic Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Drivers’ Championship, following an impressive performance during the two international events of last month’s fifth Barbados Rally Carnival.
At the wheel of his Mobil 1/Nassco/Motormac/Michelin Toyota Celica GT4, the island’s Toyota dealer won the Modified 8 classification at the Vaucluse Raceway International RallySprint, then turned in a near-perfect score the following weekend with co-driver Graham Gittens during Rally Barbados 2005.

GILL AND YEARWOOD WIN JUNE SAFARI

Victory in last weekend’s 2005 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) 4 x 4 June Safari (June 18/19) has promoted Derek Gill and Kevyn Yearwood to the head of the driver and navigator standings respectively in the BRC 4 x 4 Navigational Championship. It was the 48th running of the island’s oldest organised motor sport event, which started life as the June Rally.

TOUGHEST OF THE YEAR? 43 CREWS AIM TO FIND OUT!

Clearly, the organisers’ promise that the island’s oldest organised motor sport event would also be one of the year’s toughest has not deterred competitors; the 2005 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) 4x4 June Safari, which will be staged this weekend (June 18/19), had attracted a mammoth 43 crews by the entry deadline of 5.00pm today (Friday).

WINNING PERFORMANCE GIVES MAYERS POINTS LEAD

Thanks to his winning performance on last month’s Rally Barbados 2005, Roger Mayers has pushed Trevor Manning off the top of the standings in the Texaco Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Rally Championship; with one round remaining, Mayers has a narrow advantage of four points.

ISLAND’S OLDEST MOTOR SPORT EVENT NEXT WEEKEND

The island’s oldest organised motor sport event looks set to be one of the toughest as well this year; that’s the word from the organisers of the 2005 Barbados Rally Club (BRC) 4x4 June Safari, which will be staged next weekend (June 18/19).
This year’s event will be the 48th in its history; formerly known as the June Rally, it began as a purely navigational event before being run for some years as a navigational rally, including special stages. It eventually reverted to its navigational format, and five years ago became a 4 x 4 off-road event.
