Title race wide open as R5 Rally Championship restarts

The race to win the second season of the R5 Rally Championship, presented by First Citizens, is wide open as competitors from home and away gather in Barbados for Saturday’s (September 9) Rally of the Sun & Stars, the first qualifying round for three months. Running from day into night over 12 stages, the Motoring Club Barbados Inc’s (MCBI) premier event is round seven of 10 in this year’s R5 title chase.

Dates confirmed for Rally Barbados 2024

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) has announced the dates for the 34th edition of its premier event. Subject to final ratification by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF), Rally Barbados 2024 will run from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2, with The Rally Show and King of the Hill, the final shakedown and seeding event, on May 25 and 26.

Panton and Skeete share BRC Summer Sprint honours

Honours were shared in yesterday’s (Sunday) Double-Header Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Summer Sprint as the island’s leading competitors rejoined battle after the summer break. Dane Skeete won the first event running from Drax Hall to Ellesmere in St George, while Jamaica’s Jeff Panton won a very close battle in the reverse direction, with the top five covered by less than seven-tenths of a second.

Crucial event for Rally Club Championship on Sunday

Sunday’s (August 27) Double-Header Barbados Rally Club Summer Sprint looks set to be a turning point in the BRC Driver’s & Class Championships. There are two points-scoring opportunities on offer – the event counts as rounds five and six – and, with just one round remaining, Sunday’s results will play a major part in the outcome of the chase for the coveted Champion Driver title, also for victory in the 11 contested classes.

FIA American Congress welcomes CJKAT success

The success of the Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy (CJKAT) and its ongoing contribution to the development of motor sport in the region was welcomed by attendees at the recent 2023 FIA American Congress hosted by the Automóvil Club Guatemala. David Williams, Vice President of the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) which administers CJKAT, was among speakers who addressed the Congress in the presence of FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and other members of the FIA Leadership Team.

Thompson leads BKA points as class battles heat up

Garcia wins thrilling duel for Caribbean Junior Karting title

Thirteen-year-old Naomi Garcia from Trinidad & Tobago is the new Caribbean Junior Karting Champion. Throughout three days and 12 hard-fought races at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Jamaica at the weekend (July 21-23), she fought a thrilling duel with local racer Zander Williams, the outcome uncertain until the final race, which Garcia won by a margin of just eight-hundredths of a second and, with it, the title by 11 points.

Drivers ready for 2023 Caribbean Junior Karting contest

Thirteen karters aged from 12 to 17 from Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago will contest the third Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy (CJKAT) this weekend (July 21-23) at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Jamaica. The competition is being hosted for the first time by the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA), which will also be staging rounds four and five of its annual championship on the same programme.

Radical Cup headlines 20-race Fast Parts Race Meet

The first-ever double-header for the Radical Caribbean Cup (RCC), which showcases the fastest race cars in the region, headlines an action-packed 20-race programme at the Frankie Boodram Wallerfield International Raceway next weekend (July 22/23). Sponsored by Fast Parts Caribbean and organised by the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association’s (TTASA), the provisional schedule features more than 16 hours of track action over two days.
