WEATHER PATTERNS PROMISE CHALLENGING SAFARI

Sunday’s (September 20) MudDogs September Safari promises to be a truly challenging event for the crews contesting the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari & Safari Novice Championships, if the recent heavy rains return in the coming days, as is forecast. It is round four of five in the 2015 calendar, which draws to a close in November.

Thirteen crews were confirmed at last night’s (Tuesday) Briefing Meeting at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Club House at Searles, Christ Church Club House, with most of the leading contenders for the overall and novice titles on the list.

Leslie Alleyne and Chris O'Neal (Simpson Motors/Shell Spirax/Shell Rimula/Maxxis Isuzu D-Max) are leading the Driver and Navigator standings respectively by just four points. Second-placed Derek Gill and Andrew Croney are not entered this weekend, as remedial work is continuing on the Insurance Brokers & Solutions Inc Mitsubishi Pajero, following its retirement from the Sol Go Further June Safari with electrical problems. With only four out of five events counting towards a crew’s year-end points total, however, absentees have time to catch up.

Derek Pinto and Adam Hunte (Impulse Services Inc Toyota Hilux) lead the Chefette MudDogs Novice Championship with a perfect record of three wins so far and are seeking their fourth this weekend; second in the Driver standings is Richard Hinkson, who will be accompanied in his Flat 4's Barbados/Performance Imports Suzuki Samurai by a new Navigator, Nicola Clarke.

The BRC MudDogs September Safari, which has been set by four-time winner of the June Rally Sean Gill, will feature two routes, with the first crew scheduled to leave the start at the Vaucluse Raceway, St Thomas, at 8.01am on Sunday. The lunch stop is planned for Chefette, Six Roads, St Philip, at around 11.30am, with the finish at East Point Grill, Ragged Point in the same parish at around 4.30pm. The Prize-giving will be at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Club House at Searles, Christ Church, on Tuesday, September at 7.00pm.
