CARTER'S PIT-STOP TO SPONSOR SEPTEMBER SAFARI

Carter's Pit-stop is the new sponsor of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) September Safari, fourth round of the 2014 Chefette MudDogs Safari & Safari Novice Championships. Slated for Sunday, September 21, it looks set to be a hard-fought event, with just two more chances available for off-road crews to score points.

Carter's Marketing Director Brian Hurley said: "We were approached by the Rally Club about sponsoring an event in 2014. After much discussion with my marketing team, we decided on the September Safari. MudDogs and navigational rallying goes back to the grass roots beginnings of the Club - it's where speed rallying stemmed from - MudDogs continues to grow and we wanted to be a part of its future."

Store Manager of Carter's Pit-stop, Rhett Watson, added: "I think it's fantastic that we have decided to sponsor the September Safari . . . for me personally, navigational rallying holds a special place in my heart, as this is where it all began for me, way before I was involved in speed events and rallying."

With three rounds of five contested, the Chefette MudDogs Championships are closely poised: in the overall standings, Derek Gill and Andrew Croney (Insurance Solutions/Sweet Temptations Mitsubishi Pajero) lead with 178 points, four ahead of Leslie Alleyne and Chris O'Neal (Simpson Motors/Shell Spirax/Shell Rimula/Maxxis Isuzu D-Max), each crew having won one event this year.

It is even closer in the Chefette MudDogs Novice Championship, with Damien and Brandon Johnson (Western Union Suzuki Samurai) tied on 174 points with Julian Kirton and Dominic Straker (Kirts Connection Jeep Wrangler). Kirton and Straker won in March and June, with the Johnsons victorious in April.

Route-setter for the Pit-stop September Safari is Ben Norris. The start is slated for 8.00am on Sunday, September 21, at Carters Pit-stop, Wildey, Christ Church, with the finish roughly eight hours later at 4.00pm.

Entries for the Pit-stop September Safari are now open at Motorsport Services in Haggatt Hall and will close next Tuesday (September 16) at 1.00pm; the Briefing Meeting will be at 7.00pm the same evening, at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association Club House at Searles, Christ Church, after which the entry list will be published.
