Race of Champions - Barbados - Confirmed!

As originally posted by Barbados Motorsport last week the 2014 Race of Champions has been confirmed as being held at Bushy Park in Barbados.

A huge event, this will be the second 'unmissable' occasion for motorsports fans on the island at Bushy Park this year after the hugely successful Top Gear Festival in May.

So what can we expect? Typically the Race of Champions invites past and present champions from all genres of motorsport - Formula 1, Indycar, WRC, Touring Cars, karting, LeMans, MotoGP and more.

These drivers compete in heats, in a range of vehicles against each other to become the champion. At past events there has been Audi R8s, Nascar, KTM, Ariel Atoms, Lamborghinis and more. We will keep our eyes peeled for the forthcoming information for this year. However, it wouldn't be too surprising if they took advantage of the existing Radicals present at the facilty would it?

The other aspect is typically there is a regional competition in the series - where countries/regions compete against each other to win the national title. Will we be seeing Barbados entered into this as the host, and if so, which drivers will represent? Or will it be regional and we'll be drawing from the other islands too?

The whole event is usually televised in Europe too, meaning further great coverage for motorsports on the island.

The press release contains some very interesting tidbits :-

Some of the cars will then stay on at the Bushy Park Circuit, which will host a range of new and unique ROC driving experiences throughout 2015

So, after the event is over, some of the machines will be staying in Barbados for future use... we can only guess what these might be but we will be watching each press release like hawks!

The venue will also feature the new ROC Skills Challenge course, which has been specially designed to test a range of driving skills including chicanes, slaloms, 360˚ and 180˚ turns and parallel parking.

So, is this autocross or dexterity - two categories Barbados already has a lot of talent in? The inevitable Gymkhana Ken Block effect is likely the reason for this, we wonder if we will be seeing a return of the man himself?

Either way, this proves to be yet another amazing event at the facilty. Given that December is peak season for the island, we'll be buying those tickets early!
