CORBIN AND EDWARDS WIN SEPTEMBER SAFARI

Former Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Safari Champions Ryan Corbin and Dustin Edwards returned to Winners’ Row last Sunday (September 17), when they won the MudDogs September Safari in the Mahogany Ridge/Corbin's Catering Services Toyota Hilux. The 2010 Champions had lagged behind the opposition in the morning, but fought back in the afternoon route to win with a total of 451 penalties.

TOP CREWS TIED AHEAD OF SEPTEMBER SAFARI

Four-time Champions Leslie Alleyne and Chris O'Neal (Simpson Motors/Shell Spirax/Shell Rimula/Maxxis Isuz D-Max) are tied in the lead of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship with Jean-Marc Cozier and Andrew Croney (Honda Pioneer) as crews make final preparations for the penultimate round on Sunday (September 17).

FIA President Todt praises island motor sport fraternity

President of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Jean Todt heaped praise on the island’s motor sport fraternity shortly before he left Barbados on Tuesday (August 8) after a one-day visit in his capacity as the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety. Speaking to the media at Bushy Park, he said: “In Barbados, a small country of less than 300,000 population, there are a lot of skilled people with energy and passion, which makes me very happy.”

ALLEYNE AND O’NEAL REWRITE RALLY CLUB RECORDS

Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal re-wrote the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) record books at the weekend (June 24/25) with victory in the Sol 60th Anniversary June Safari, despite a scare on the final route which made them “pleasantly surprised to have pulled it off”. Alleyne’s eighth win moves him two ahead of fellow ‘June’ veteran Wayne Clarke, O’Neal brings the list of four-time winners to six, while the partnership has set a new record for the highest number of wins in the shortest time frame, four in six years.

SOL 60th ANNIVERSARY JUNE SAFARI THIS WEEKEND

Twelve former winners of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) longest-running event will help the Club celebrate six decades of motor sport organisation at this weekend’s Sol 60th Anniversary June Safari (June 24/25). With 30 victories between them, the list includes some of the island’s most experienced navigational rally practitioners, so a keen contest is assured during the 17-hour overnight event.

SOL JUNE SAFARI TAKES BRC BACK TO ITS ROOTS

The Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is not forgetting its past as it prepares to mark the end of its sixth decade. The Sol 60th Anniversary June Safari later this month (June 24/25) will carry the Club right back to its roots, following a circuitous route between Applewhaites and Vaucluse, both in the parish of St Thomas and the same start and finish points used for the inaugural event on Sunday, June 16, 1957.
